"The Torx (R) screw of the door striker on the back door was rusty, and when I tried to loosen it for replacement, the screw head was already a little bit stripped. (Maybe the previous owner tried to extract it. Hmm...) After spraying CRC-556 and leaving it for a day, I put a rubber band between the screw and the screwdriver bit and tried hitting it with a hammer, but it didn't turn at all and the screw head was completely stropped."

2023.05.25 [Screw Rescue Report] Mountain bike pedal screw

 Received SOS for mountain bike pedal from Nagoya City.

"When I tried to remove the pedal shaft of my mountain bike, the screw (torx) was stuck and I stripped it.

Since the tool interferes with the body of the pedal, the force cannot be applied directly above the screw. Also, I don't know if I can grab it because it is a fairly thin low-head screw. Please let me know what kind of tools are suitable for this. ”

 

The first thing we noticed when we saw the image was the pedal for the right side of the bicycle. There is a possibility of a left-handed screw, so I will check it.

A “left-handed screw” is a screw whose “tightening/loosening” direction is the opposite of that of a general screw (right-handed screw), and cannot be judged from its appearance.

If you make a mistake in this, even if you turn the screw with the intention of loosening it, it will continue to tighten, and you will end up stripping the head of the screw.

It looks like an imported mountain bike, and as a result of searching on the overseas site, it turned out to be a "left-hand screw"!

After confirming the arrival of replacement screws from overseas, he sent us the pedals.

2023.05.24[Screw Rescue Report] Motorcycle exhaust flange fixing bolts

 Received an SOS regarding the fixing bolt for a motorcycle exhaust flange from Higashinari Ward, Osaka City. 

"The stud bolt is broken. I tried using a stud bolt remover, but there are only about 5 threads remaining, so it won't grip properly. Is it possible to have it removed?"

This is an old model of the Honda "Super Hawk 3," and the motorcycle shop declined the repair because it would be difficult.

Since he lives nearby, we arranged for him to visit our office, and the entire Screw Rescue Team started the rescue operation.

We used the Neju-saurus Liquid (Rust Remover) ZC-29 to remove rust, followed by the After Liquid (Penetrating lubricant) ZC-20 for penetration and lubrication, heated it with the KOTELYZER (Cordless soldering iron) SKA-70 torch function, and applied rapid cooling agent repeatedly...

However, the remaining three bolts were severely stuck, and even the Screw Rescue Team started to feel the pressure... But by using the secret method, we managed to extract all of them!

2023.05.23 [Screw Rescue Report] The stripped screws are fixing the rear fan motor of the car navigation system

 Received an SOS about the fan motor for car navigation systems from Hiroshima Prefecture.

"I tried to remove the 4-5mm diameter screws on the back of my car navigation system's fan motor, but it seems to have a Threadlocker, and the screws got stripped.

I want to replace the fan motor with a new one. Can I get some advice?"
