Can a Rubber Band Help Removing Stripped Screws?

As far as we know, this method has been introduced on websites worldwide (including a major furniture retailer's site), so many of you may already be familiar with it. The technique involves placing a rubber band between the stripped screw and the screwdriver, turning the screwdriver counterclockwise to loosen the screw.

Many people have reported success using this method, and it seems to be effective in certain cases. We think the conditions for its effectiveness include: 1 The screw still has some a little bit remaining cross grooves, even if it's stripped. 2 The material where is used is not overly hard. The method is to increase the friction coefficient between the screwdriver and the screw by using a rubber band. If the resulting torque due to this increased friction is bigger than the loosening torque of the screw, it should be possible to remove it. Otherwise, it may not work. Therefore, this method may work well for situations like removing stripped screws in softer materials, such as furniture made of softwood. However, real-world scenarios often involve more challenging situations. We ENGINEER INC. offer a variety of Screw Removal Tools, so-called Nejisaurus with over 70 kinds, to address a wide range of screw troubles worldwide. Additionally, our chatbot service can provide the best solutions for your screw-related issues. 2023.11.30 [Screw Rescue Report] Honda Cross Cub

This  Screw Rescue Report is from a customer who lives in Japan.

★Issue Description:

"I attempted to remove the screw tightening the tail lamp on my motorcycle (Honda Cross Cub 110JA45) to install side bag stays. However, the screws were very tight, and it was in a hard-to-reach position, making it challenging to apply force with tools. As a result, I stripped the screws on both the left and right sides. While I managed to remove the left side screw with the Nejisaurus Mogura (So called Socket Screw Extractor). But the right side screw recess widened and Mogura and Bazooka (So called Rapid Screw Extractor) couldn't be used."

★Work Log:

After checking the damaged screw photos provided by the customer, we sent a prototype Nejisaurus Mogura and ask them to extract it by themselves.

★Customer Appreciation:

Upon using the borrowed "Mogura", the customer reported, "I tried the tools you provided, and it gripped tightly, making the screw come off very easily! I'm truly grateful for this relief." 🦖

2023.11.28 [Screw Rescue Report] Shimano Stella Spinning Reel Screw

This is a Screw Rescue Report from a customer in Ise City, Mie Prefecture, in the Chubu region of Japan.

★Issue Description:

"The screws on my Shimano Stella C2000S became stripped. I didn't know how to remove them and found your company through an online search. I reached out for assistance."

★Work Log:

The customer promptly sent the product to us, and our Screw Rescue Team began the operation immediately. Using tools such as Nejisaurs Mogura Middle DBZ-420 (So called Socket Screw Extractor) with a trick, Extension Bit Holder DR-23, Universal Joint DR-25, GT Drive DZ-70 of uniquely shaped screwdriver grip, and Ratchet Drive DZ-50, a combination of tools was deployed, resulting in a successful rescue 🦖.

★Customer Appreciation:

"I believe there are people worldwide facing similar troubles. Personally, I would have been willing to pay for Screw Rescue. Shimano products allow users to disassemble reels themselves, and the manufacturer supplies parts, leading to cases like mine where users attempt disassembly and encounter issues. Shimano's products, such as STELLA, and Daiwa's products like EXIST and SALTIGA, which are high-end reels costing around 100,000 yen, or 660 USD, may prompt desperate searches for services like ours when screws are stripped. Please consider helping those who are facing such challenges. I am truly grateful for your assistance this time 🦖."

2023.11.27 [Screw Rescue Report] Scooter Solenoid Valve Screw

This is a Screw Rescue Report from a customer in Hadano City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Kanto Region, Japan.

★Issue Description:

"When trying to remove the scooter's solenoid valve, I accidentally stripped the screw threads with a screwdriver. The screw is small, and the space is tight. I purchased PZ-60 and tried using it, but even with a firm grip and turning, the screw head keeps getting stripped. Is my grip too weak? I've also sprayed penetrating lubricant and tried using parts cleaner for better grip, but the screw continues to get damaged. I even tried using the Neji-saurus side-jaws without success."

★Work Log:

After examining the damaged screw photos, we suggested three candidate products from the Nejisaurus series. We explained the features of each and asked the customer to choose the one that best suited the screw they wanted to remove.

PZ-77 Nejisaurus GTV (Total Length: 182mm): Standard Nejisaurus suitable for various applications. Features a spring for repeated work. (With cap)

PZ-78 Nejisaurus EL (225mm): Larger Nejisaurus for electricians, with offset vertical serrations on the left side for easy removal of screws in tight spaces, suitable for cases like this. Equipped with cutting blades for cutting wires.

PZ-79 Nejisaurus VA (215mm): Similar to PZ-78, designed for electricians with left-side offset vertical serrations. The cutting edge is ideal for cutting copper cables.

★Method and Customer Appreciation:

"Thank you for your response. I purchased and tried the recommended PZ-78. With a slightly firmer grip and turned counterclockwise, it made a satisfying clicking sound and turned smoothly. The space was tight, and the screw head seemed to be around 5mm, so I initially used PZ-60. However, I now understand the importance of choosing the right tool. The offset serrations make it user-friendly. I was able to remove the screw, and I appreciate your advice."

★Staff Note:

Choose the Neji-saurus based on the diameter of the screw head. Particularly, PZ-57 is for small screws (2-3.5mm), so please be cautious. If you're unsure, feel free to use our Chatbot Service to select the best Nejisaurus for your needs.
